Room Parent Info

2024-2025 Room Parent Coordinator: Dominique Gibson

If you served as a room parent in previous school terms please pay close attention to number one and number four as there are new additions/changes.

The coordinator will  send reminder emails at least three weeks prior to teacher birthdays, class parties, and any other duties to support our amazing teachers. Let's work together to make this a great year!

Information for the room parents:

1. For teacher birthdays, the room parent reminds the class parents it's the teacher's birthday in case they want to send a gift, then for that day, they bring the teacher lunch and get a parent or two to sit with the class for one hour so that the teacher can have a duty-free lunch. This year we are not providing lunch for a pair teacher; however, the teacher whose birthday it is can always choose to go off campus for lunch. In that case, the room parent will just provide a gift card ($10-15) to the teacher's chosen place. Some parents also like to decorate the classroom door. This lunch will be reimbursed by the PTA, so please submit this form to be reimbursed.

2. When we get back from Thanksgiving break, the room parents need to ask the teacher what they would like to do for the Christmas party. Usually the room parent creates a sign-up genius for items for the party and volunteers at the actual party to help out. The teachers usually want to do pizza or chicken nuggets for the food, and so the room parents collect $5 from each student for both parties, the Christmas and Valentine's ($5 total, not $5 for each party), and it ends up being plenty.

3. Toward the end of January, room parents should get with their teacher about the class Valentine's party. The room parents keep up with the money from the parents--the teachers are not allowed to collect money--so they should have money leftover from Christmas to do pizza or chicken nuggets again. Then they'll create a sign-up genius like for the Christmas party for any additional materials needed.

4. Teacher appreciation lunch: The PTA sponsors lunch for all of the teachers one day during Teacher Appreciation week in May, and each teacher will need one or two parents to sit with each class. The room parent can either volunteer or find another parent to sit with the class instead.
